Jason Day's Injury Woes Derail PGA Tour Run

It's been a mixed bag for Jason Day at the 2025 PGA Tour, with a disappointing miss at the PGA Championship, but stellar performances at The Masters, Arnold Palmer Invitational, and The American Express. However, a series of injuries has taken their toll, causing him to withdraw from several tournaments.

Last Call for U.S. Open Preparation

In a recent interview on The Loop podcast, Day revealed that a freak accident while moving a bike left him with a two-to-four week wrist injury[1]. This mishap occurred in his left wrist, causing him excruciating pain and immobility for a week and a half. Despite the setback, Day is determined to make a comeback for the U.S. Open, where he's chasing his third Major victory.

Initially, Day was set to play the RBC Canadian Open as a warm-up for the U.S. Open. However, due to the sudden injury, Day had to take a break from golf for a few weeks[1]. He resumed swinging a club only recently, marking his first swings in over two weeks on a Monday[1].

Given the sudden nature of the injury, Day is being cautious about his recovery. He doesn't want to risk exacerbating the issue, as suffering a tear to the triangular fibrocartilage complex (TFCC) could require surgery[2].

Battling Through the Pain

This wrist injury isn't Day's only concern. Earlier in the season, he withdrew from the Truist Championship due to a herniated disk near his neck[3]. Neck injuries can take several weeks to several months to heal, depending on the severity[3][5]. However, Day is heeding medical advice and taking the necessary time to recover.

The 13-time PGA Tour winner is no stranger to the U.S. Open, having made 13 appearances with two runner-up finishes under his belt[4]. With his aggressive playing style, Oakmont, the venue for this year's U.S. Open, could pose a challenge, given his past performance, where he finished in a share of eighth in 2016[4].
