At 31: Handball Coach Suffers Second Stroke - Jaron Siewert makes emotional comeback after two strokes and coaching exit
Jaron Siewert, the former head coach of Füchse Berlin, has announced his return to coaching after a serious health setback. His departure from the club in September 2025 came just months before a second stroke left him recovering for an extended period. Now fully recovered, he is seeking new opportunities in handball management.
Siewert's time at Füchse Berlin ended abruptly in September 2025, despite having a contract until the season's close. The decision followed a successful 2024 campaign, where he led the team to its first-ever championship title. Two months after his dismissal, he suffered a second stroke—his first having occurred in 2022.
Medical experts later linked the latest stroke to a blood thinner prescribed after his initial health scare. The setback forced a pause in his career, but after recovery, Siewert confirmed he was ready for fresh challenges. Füchse Berlin moved quickly to replace him, appointing Nicolej Krickau as head coach in September 2025. Since then, no other major coaching changes have been reported in top-level handball.
Siewert's return marks the end of a difficult period following two strokes and his unexpected exit from Füchse Berlin. His previous success with the team and his determination to resume coaching suggest he remains a notable figure in the sport. The club, meanwhile, continues under Krickau's leadership.
