Japanese Restoration Party Announces New Leadership Group
Nippon Ishin no Kai Announces New Leadership Team
The Nippon Ishin no Kai (Japan Innovation Party) has announced a new leadership team following recent electoral setbacks. The party, based in Osaka Prefecture, aims to rebuild and unify its ranks with this restructuring.
Hirofumi Yoshimura, the Governor of Osaka Prefecture, will continue as the party leader. Fumitake Fujita, previously the party's secretary-general, has been elected as co-leader.
Hiroshi Nakatsuka, a member of the House of Representatives, has been appointed as the new secretary-general. Takashi Endo, a fellow House of Representatives member, returns as the parliamentary affairs chief. Alex Saito, also a Lower House member, takes on the role of policy chief, while Kaori Takagi, a member of the House of Councillors, becomes the general affairs chief.
The leadership changes were prompted by the party's disappointing performance in the July 20, 2025 Upper House election. Former co-leader Seiji Maehara and other senior executives resigned in early August to take responsibility for the sluggish showing.
Yoshimura stated that the personnel changes aim to unite all Nippon Ishin members and overcome internal conflicts, thereby strengthening the party's position. The new leaders will work towards resolving intraparty conflicts and strengthening the party.
The press conference for the announcement of new appointments was held at the party headquarters in Osaka city. Both Saito and Takagi are new additions to the Nippon Ishin no Kai leadership team.
With this new leadership team, the Nippon Ishin no Kai continues to focus on addressing internal issues to improve its performance. The party will strive to regain its strength and influence in Japanese politics.
