Japanese Party Nippon Ishin appoints Nakatsuka as Secretary-General
Japan Innovation Party Announces Key Appointments
The Japan Innovation Party, currently led by Hiroshi Nakatsuka, is set to announce the appointments of Takashi Endo, Alex Saito, and Hiroshi Nakatsuka himself on Tuesday. The specific roles for these appointments have not been disclosed in the party's official statement.
Hiroshi Nakatsuka, the current secretary-general of the party, is a Lower House lawmaker who previously served as the mayor of Hirakata in Osaka and a member of the assembly of Osaka Prefecture. He also has a background in journalism, having worked as a newspaper reporter. Nakatsuka is currently serving his second term in the Lower House.
Takashi Endo is expected to return as the parliamentary affairs chief, having previously held this position in the party. Alex Saito, on the other hand, is likely to become the policy chief.
These appointments come after a significant setback for the party in the July 2025 Upper House election. The party, which was formerly known as Nippon Ishin, did not secure any constituency seats outside of the Kansai western region under the proportional representation system. The party's performance in the election was worse than expected, with both constituency seats and votes under the proportional representation system hitting a record low.
In response to the unimpressive election results, the previous co-leader Seiji Maehara and Secretary-General Ryohei Iwatani resigned. Fumitake Fujita, who succeeded Seiji Maehara as co-leader, is working with Governor Hirofumi Yoshimura to form the new leadership team.
The Japan Innovation Party is considering appointing Hiroshi Nakatsuka as its secretary-general. The party will announce the details of these appointments on Tuesday.
