Japanese Ishin Leader Contemplates Alignment with Governing Coalition
Japan Innovation Party Pushes Forward with Second Capital Establishment Draft Bill
In a significant development, Nippon Ishin no Kai, also known as the Japan Innovation Party, has been actively working on a draft bill for the establishment of the nation's second capital. This policy initiative, a major focus for the party, was presented at a recent meeting and is currently under consideration.
The draft bill, a key part of Nippon Ishin's policy agenda, aims to pave the way for the realisation of one of the party's policy pillars. Alongside social security reform, the establishment of the second capital has been a prominent pledge for the party since the July election.
Since then, Nippon Ishin has been focusing on this draft bill, making steady progress in formulating a draft bill for the establishment of the second capital. The party's co-leader, Fumitake Fujita, has made a similar remark about the possibility of joining the ruling bloc, hinting at a potential alliance with the Liberal Democratic Party and Komeito.
Leader Hirofumi Yoshimura has also left open the possibility of the opposition party joining the ruling coalition. He stated that the party will not exclude the option of joining the coalition and plans to carefully watch the stances of candidates in the LDP's leadership election scheduled for Oct. 4.
The decision regarding Nippon Ishin no Kai joining the ruling coalition is expected by the end of September 2025. If the party does join the coalition, it could potentially accelerate the passage of the draft bill for the establishment of the second capital.
At the meeting on Friday, an outline of the draft bill was presented. The details of the bill are yet to be fully disclosed, but it is expected to provide a comprehensive plan for the establishment of the second capital, including the selection of the location and the necessary infrastructure.
As the party continues to work on the draft bill, the establishment of the second capital remains a significant step towards achieving one of Nippon Ishin's policy pillars. The party's commitment to this cause indicates a strong push towards a more balanced and dynamic development across Japan.
