Knie Injury: Unions Haberer Trains Individually - Janik Haberer's injury scare leaves Union Berlin's Gladbach clash in doubt

Union Berlin's midfielder Janik Haberer escaped a serious knee injury after being forced off early in the team's recent win over Bayer Leverkusen. The club confirmed he suffered only a contusion, but his availability for the upcoming match against Borussia Mönchengladbach remains unclear. Meanwhile, several key players continue to recover from injuries as the squad prepares at their home stadium.

Haberer's injury occurred during the 23rd matchday of the 2025/26 season, when he was fouled by Leverkusen's Tillman after just 10 minutes. Despite his early exit, Union Berlin secured a 1-0 victory thanks to a goal from Rani Khedira. This season, Haberer has made three appearances without scoring, a drop from his previous campaigns where he featured in 28 and 21 games, respectively.

The midfielder trained individually in the locker room during the first session ahead of the Gladbach fixture. His return to full team training has not yet been confirmed, leaving his participation in doubt.

Other players also faced setbacks. Defenders Tom Rothe, Diogo Leite, and Josip Juranović stayed sidelined due to ongoing injuries. Robin Knoche worked separately with a rehabilitation coach, while Rani Khedira, András Schäfer, and Stanley Nsoki finished training early because of mild colds and controlled workloads.

The team held their session at the Stadion An der Alten Försterei, avoiding their usual training ground due to concerns about uneven pitch surfaces. Off the field, captain Christopher Trimmel marked his 39th birthday with a tribute from his teammates.

Union Berlin now awaits further updates on Haberer's fitness before the Gladbach clash. With multiple players still recovering, the squad's preparation has been adjusted to manage injuries and workloads. The team's recent win over Leverkusen keeps morale high as they focus on maintaining form in the coming matches.
