Over two decades have passed since the release of the iconic movie, and Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan are back, reprising their iconic roles in the upcoming sequel, "Freakier Friday."
The original 2003 film, based on Mary Rodgers' 1972 novel, saw Lohan portray Anna Coleman, a girl who magically swapped bodies with her mother, Tess Coleman, played by Curtis. In the new installment, they visit a psychic played by Vanessa Bayer from "Saturday Night Live." The psychic hints that their "lifelines" have crossed paths before, leaving the two women feigning ignorance.
This time, they swap bodies with Anna's biological daughter and stepdaughter instead of each other. While the sequel offers a fresh storyline, it still pays homage to the original.
In an interview with The New York Times in 2023, Curtis and Lohan talked about the 20th anniversary of the beloved family movie and expressed their interest in starring in Disney's sequel. Curtis stated, "People wanted to know if there would be another 'Freaky Friday.' Something really struck a chord. When I returned, I contacted my friends at Disney and said, 'It seems like there's a movie to be made.'" Lohan added, "Jamie and I are open to that, so we're leaving it in Disney's hands. We'd only make something that fans would absolutely love."
Mark Harmon, Rosalind Chao, Chad Michael Murray, Manny Jacinto, Julia Butters, Sophia Hammons, and Maitreyi Ramakrishnan join the cast for the film, which hits theaters on August 8.
