Breaking Ground: A Dark Fantasy World Awaits the Legendary James Cameron
Upcoming movie venture spearheaded by James Cameron - James Cameron initiates new movie production
Get ready for a twist in the epic saga of filmmaking! Aging directorial maestro, James Cameron (70), might be venturing away from his long-standing, 30-year-long bind with the universe of "Avatar". Amidst the imminent December release of "Avatar: Fire and Ash", the three-time Oscar winner is hinting at a new project. Cameron's production company, Lightstorm Entertainment, has just seized the rights to Joe Abercrombie's (50) fantastical novel, "The Devils". Announcing the news, none other than the filmmaker himself, dropped the bombshell on Instagram.
Engaging the Dark World of "The Devils"
"What in blazes is 'The Devils'? A witty, cunning tale of horror and adventure? An epic clash of good versus evil, with edges blurred beyond recognition? A quirky, swashbuckling medieval romp, where exterminating the monstrous beasts just might save your ass?" Cameron enthuses in the press release, painting a vivid picture of Abercrombie's novel. Post completing work on "Avatar 3", Cameron plans to team up with the author to bring this saga to the big screen.
"Eager as a schoolboy for a new challenge, I can't wait to give life to these mesmerizing characters," Cameron added with anticipation.
A Decaying Europe Hangs by a Thread
"The Devils" is set in an alternate, magical medieval world, where humanity trembles under the looming threat of flesh-eating elves. The story follows Brother Diaz, a humble monk, as he undertakes the journey to safeguard a lost heir and lead her to her coronation, thereby uniting the resistance against the impending apocalypse. Diaz gathers a squad of supernatural monsters and nefarious criminals, an eclectic gang known as the seven devils, to aid him in his mission.
In the Pipelines: Avatar 4 and 5
Cameron's exploration of new territories, beyond the alien world of "Avatar", might come as a shock, considering two sequels, set for release in 2029 and 2031, are already on the cards. However, production and filming for these have yet to commence, leaving room for Cameron to chase other dreams.
Back in 1997, Cameron dabbled in a narrative outside the vivid landscapes of Avatar with the production of "Titanic", which bagged all three of his current Oscars. The romantic disaster epic went on to garner a whopping eleven Academy Awards.
