The James Bond franchise is gearing up for a new adventure, with British author, producer, and director Steven Knight set to write the script for the upcoming film. This exciting development marks a significant creative direction for the franchise, as the film will be directed by Canadian Denis Villeneuve, known for his critically acclaimed work on "Dune."
Steven Knight is renowned for his contributions to the world of entertainment, having created the acclaimed TV series "Peaky Blinders" and "SAS Rogue Heroes." He has also penned screenplays for numerous films, including "Locke" and "Dirty Pretty Things." Beyond that, Knight's upcoming projects include "Serenity" (2019), "Spencer" (2021), and "Maria" (2024).
Production on the new Bond film is expected to begin in 2026, due to Villeneuve's current commitments, which suggests a likely release around 2027 or later. The identity of the seventh 007 actor remains a mystery at this point.
The reboot of the James Bond film series is under the leadership of Amazon MGM Studios. Notably, Amy Pascal and David Heyman are in charge of the project. Pascal, who has been co-chairman of Sony Pictures, has co-financed and distributed several James Bond films with MGM and EON Productions during her tenure. Heyman, on the other hand, is best known for producing the successful Harry Potter series.
In a significant move, Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson, the long-time producers of the James Bond series, have handed over creative control. The exact release date for the next James Bond film has yet to be announced.
