James Bond actor Pierce Brosnan might revisit his iconic role if a director had a compelling idea for the film series.
Pierce Brosnan Discusses Returning as James Bond and Amazon's Creative Control
Pierce Brosnan, who played James Bond from 1995 until 2002, has expressed his openness to returning to the iconic role under the creative direction of Amazon. In a recent interview, Brosnan mentioned that he would consider reprising his role "in a heartbeat" if director Denis Villeneuve had "something up his sleeve," despite his age of 72. Brosnan joked about the possibility, suggesting the use of bald caps and prosthetics to maintain the character's youthful appearance, emphasising that it would be great entertainment.
Helen Mirren, Brosnan's co-star in The Thursday Murder Club, has weighed in on the debate surrounding the gender of James Bond. Mirren insists that Bond "has to be a guy," implying her support for continuing the tradition of male leads for the iconic spy. Halle Berry, who starred opposite Brosnan in The World Is Not Enough, has also expressed reservations about making 007 a woman.
Amazon took over full creative control of the James Bond franchise in February 2025 after acquiring MGM, sparking much anticipation about the future direction of the films, including who will next play 007. Brosnan noted there are many great candidates expected for the next Bond and anticipates Amazon will deliver a "spectacle of delight."
Robert Davi, who played the villain in "License to Kill," expressed hope that the James Bond franchise under Amazon's control would not become "woke." However, no verified information is available about Davi's views on the franchise's creative direction at this time.
With Amazon's full creative control, the James Bond franchise is poised for an exciting future, and fans eagerly await the announcement of the next James Bond. Brosnan himself has been eagerly awaiting Amazon's announcement regarding the next Bond, hoping to see the franchise continue to thrive.
