Jaguars' quarterback Cam Little wagers a 70-yard distance following his impressive preseason kickoff
Cam Little's 70-yard Field Goal Falls Short of NFL Record
Cam Little, the Jacksonville Jaguars' kicker, made history during the preseason with a 70-yard field goal, the longest ever in an NFL game context. However, the kick does not count towards the official NFL records, as it was made during a preseason game.
The current official record for the longest field goal stands at 66 yards, set by Justin Tucker in 2021. Despite surpassing Tucker's mark by four yards, Little's record-breaking attempt does not qualify as the official record.
Little's incredible kicking range has caught the attention of his coaches, who may consider attempting very long field goals, potentially even 70 yards or more, during the 2025 season. If Little can replicate this distance in an official game, he will officially break the record.
The Pro Football Hall of Fame has already recognised the historical significance of Little's kick, requesting memorabilia related to the event, despite its unofficial status.
Looking ahead, Little remains optimistic about making another long field goal during the season. He predicts that more kickers will follow in his footsteps and make 70-yard field goals in the future.
Meanwhile, the Jaguars had multiple storylines in their preseason opener, with Travis Hunter making his debut on both offense and defense. The team's stars, including Hunter, are expected to dominate the team's season.
While Little's 70-yard field goal did not count as the official record, it serves as a testament to the new generation of long-range kickers emerging in the NFL.
