Jadon Sancho Heads to Aston Villa on Loan After Disappointing United Spell
Jadon Sancho is set to leave Manchester United on loan once again, this time joining Aston Villa. The winger had a disappointing season under Erik ten Hag, leading to his departure from Old Trafford.
Sancho's future at Manchester United has been uncertain since he fell out with former manager Erik ten Hag during training. The 23-year-old was subsequently left out of the first-team group during pre-season. To facilitate a move away, Chelsea paid to cancel their obligation-to-buy agreement for Sancho, estimated at a fee of £5m.
Sancho's performances at United have not lived up to expectations since his £73m move from Borussia Dortmund in 2021. Last season, he scored five goals and registered 10 assists in all competitions, but this was not enough to secure a regular starting spot. His only major honour with the club was winning the UEFA Conference League, making 42 appearances in total.
Aston Villa will pay 80% of Sancho's wages during his loan spell, with Manchester United retaining an option to extend his contract until 2027. However, if Sancho does not extend his contract, he could become a free agent next summer. The loan move to Villa Park provides Sancho with an opportunity to rediscover his form and prove his worth, potentially salvaging his career at Manchester United.
