In an open chat with PEOPLE mag during the buzz for his latest flick, Karate Kid: Legends, the one and only Jackie Chan shared a heartwarming yet surprising tale about his relationship with his late mother, Lee-lee.
This legendary Hong Kong martial artist, actor, and filmmaker, now 70, revealed that ol' mom never made it past the opening credits of any of his films. Seems his hazardous stunts were a tad too much for her delicate emotions.
He humorously shared, "Mom never caught the whole flick of mine." Turns out, this tough old broad would start the movie, glance through the credits, but the moment she spotted him leaping from buildings or flying through the air, she’d bail faster than you can say "crane kick."
"When I'd lay a smackdown on someone, she'd lose interest. If someone took me down, she'd look away. She never sat through an entire film," said Jackie.
But fear not, fans of the Police Story and Rumble in the Bronx series, Jackie's mom was living proof of his magnetic charisma. Her apartment was lined with posters of Jackie, which she'd hug and kiss goodnight every evening. "That's my mom," Jackie said, recounting those fond memories.
It's worth mentioning that Lee-lee, a former housekeeper, passed away in 2002, leaving us with this captivating story of a strapping young man and a mother who loved him, but just couldn't handle the heat of his action-packed films.
