Is Tiger Woods' quest for 19 Majors over after all the setbacks and controversies?
As Jack Nicklaus turns 77 in January 2017, his record of 18 major championships remains unbroken by anyone, including Tiger Woods.
Woods' latest comeback stirs up conversation, but to surpass Nicklaus' feat, he'd need to win five more Majors. It's an extraordinary challenge, especially considering Woods is 41 and hasn't won a major since 2008.
However, Woods has got a valid argument. He's already won all four Majors, has clinched some majors with a considerable margin, was the world number one for 683 weeks, and boasts an astounding 79 PGA Tour victories. But even yet, Jack Nicklaus' legends cast a long shadow over Wrestler Woods.
Shane O'Donoghue, the host of CNN's Golf Lifestyle, opined: "Tiger Woods can play as much as he wants, I'm a huge Tiger fan, but I feel there's more in there. But it's highly unlikely that anyone will ever eclipse Jack Nicklaus' record. He deserves to be the greatest golfer of all time."
"New Points to Ponder"
Nicklaus' brilliance extends beyond just the major victories. With 19 Top-5 finishes out of 56 tournament appearances, he holds the second-highest record for this achievement. Compared to Tiger Woods, who boasts 31 Top-5 placements and six second places at Major Championships, Nicklaus' consistency at major tournaments is unparalleled.
"Can't Igonore What Nicklaus Achieved in a Limited Timeframe?" asked O'Donoghue.
"He was a family man and valued quality over quantity," O'Donoghue continued. "We all know 18 Majors, but 19 second places and nine third-place finishes at Majors is just mind-boggling. It's almost incomprehensible, in this business sphere, the level of engagement Nicklaus showed. He managed to achieve this level of success, desire, and talent, drawing out the best from himself and preparing meticulously, which says a lot about his character and spirit."
