Ivanishvili Marks Georgian Dream's 13th Anniversary, Warns of Foreign Interference
Bidzina Ivanishvili, the founder and honorary chairman of Georgian Dream, has marked the party's 13th anniversary of its 2012 parliamentary election victory with a letter. In it, he praised the party's record and warned of foreign interference in Georgian politics.
Ivanishvili described the last 13 years as a period of both achievements and challenges. He stressed that Georgian Dream has successfully 'neutralized' the 'imposed pseudo-liberal ideology' that once labelled the current authorities as authoritarian. Despite facing obstacles, Ivanishvili assured that Georgia's statehood was never at risk.
In his letter, Ivanishvili portrayed the opposition parties European Georgia and Lelo, as well as the non-governmental organization Georgia’s Reforms Association, as agents of hostile foreign interests. He claimed these groups were attempting to deceive Georgians by replacing political parties, public figures, or television channels. Ivanishvili also cited 'treacherous betrayal' from within his own ranks, with former party members choosing to serve 'influential foreign powers' or prioritize personal comfort over Georgia's interests.
Ivanishvili, who has maintained decisive influence over Georgian politics since Georgian Dream's victory in 2012, ended his letter with a call for voter participation in the upcoming local elections on October 4. He emphasized that Georgian Dream does not reject partnership with any country, provided it does not undermine Georgia's sovereignty.
