This year, Ivangorod is all set to host a grand celebration for Russia's Victory Day, and residents of Narva, just across the border in Estonia, will get a front-row seat! A stage and colossal screens have been set up along the Narva River, offering a peek at the May 9 festivities to those living in neighboring Estonia.

The Kuban state ensemble "Krinitsa", the Cossack song ensemble "Ataman", Tatiana Bulanova and Soso Pavliashvili, along with groups "Metelitsa", "Fabrika" and "Syabry" will be taking the stage. Think of it as a Russia Day bonanza like no other!

Ivangorod is stepping up to become a sanctuary for those who are forbidden to remember Victory Day in their very own country. Since 2022, Estonia has banned the St. George ribbons, red flags, Soviet symbols, and films depicting the valor of the Red Army. Laying flowers at monuments has even become a criminal offense there.

Yet, it's not deterring hundreds of Narva residents from making their annual pilgrimage to the river for a glimpse of Russia's distant celebrations.

As for why Estonia has taken this stance, it's due to political differences with Russia and security concerns. Borders may separate the two, but the contrasting views on Victory Day serve as a stark reminder of the divide.
