Ivan Demidov dominates December as NHL’s top rookie with 14 points
Ivan Demidov has been named the NHL’s Rookie of the Month for December 2025. The Montreal Canadiens forward led all first-year players with 14 points during the month. His strong performance has kept him at the top of rookie scoring this season.
Demidov was drafted fifth overall by Montreal in 2024. Now, in his first full NHL campaign, he has already made an impact. Through 39 games, he sits first among rookies with 33 points.
In December alone, the young forward recorded four goals and 10 assists. He also finished the month with a +6 rating, showing his two-way effectiveness. His scoring surge included a four-game point streak to close out December, where he collected seven points in those final matches. The Calder Trophy for Rookie of the Year is awarded at season’s end, but Demidov’s December performance has set him apart early. His consistency and production have made him a standout in his first year.
Demidov’s 14-point month has reinforced his position as the NHL’s top-scoring rookie. With 33 points in 39 games, he continues to lead all first-year players. The Canadiens will look to him as a key contributor for the rest of the season.
