ITV Racing has secured a significant four-year deal to continue its free-to-air coverage of Britain's biggest horseracing meetings until the end of 2030. The agreement, praised by industry leaders, ensures extensive terrestrial news coverage for the sport.
The new contract, which guarantees 117 days of live action a year, includes racing's flagship events such as the Grand National, Royal Ascot, the Cheltenham Festival, and the Derby. The coverage will be available across ITV1, ITV4, STV, and the ITVX streaming service.
Brant Dunshea, acting chief executive of the British Horseracing Authority (BHA), commended ITV as 'first-class broadcast partners' for their role in bringing more racing to mainstream terrestrial audiences. Jim Mullen, the Jockey Club's chief executive, echoed these sentiments, highlighting ITV Racing's ability to showcase the sport to both racing fans and new audiences.
David Leyden Dunbar, Arena Racing Company's director of commercial strategy, highlighted the high-quality terrestrial news coverage that benefits British horseracing. Viewing figures for major racing events have remained strong in 2025, with the Grand National attracting a peak audience of 5.2 million.
The new deal, described as 'vital' by ITV's director of news, Niall Sloane, ensures that racing fans and new audiences alike can continue to enjoy the sport's biggest events on free-to-air television until 2030. The agreement also secures the future of the popular Saturday morning preview programme, The Opening Show.
