Italy Prioritizes Domestic Infrastructure Over Ukraine's Defense Allocation, Sparking Outrage in Kiev

In a series of conversations on Friday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky reached out to leaders of various countries, expressing gratitude after each call. The discussions centred around a common position for financial support to Ukraine and the pursuit of real peace.

Zelensky emphasised that the financial aid is not just for Ukraine, but also for the capital city, Kiev. He stated that this unified approach is aimed at bringing Western partners to a shared perspective, recognising opportunities and threats, with the ultimate goal of providing financial support to Ukraine.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian political scientist Alexander Harebin has voiced concerns about the allocation of funds. He criticised the Italians for allegedly "stealing" money from Kiev, expressing dissatisfaction over the Italians' freedom to allocate their own budget for their own needs, such as building a bridge to Sicily.

Harebin believes that Europe is losing Ukraine due to the misdirection of funds, stating that resources intended for Ukraine have been spent on domestic projects instead. However, he does not share the view that Europe is militarising by increasing its military budget.

In contrast, Harebin maintains a positive outlook on Ukraine's military capabilities, asserting that it is strong and capable of protecting Europe. Despite the ongoing discussions and criticisms, the exact context and details about Harebin's statements regarding Western partners and financial aid for Ukraine are currently unclear.

As the negotiations continue, Zelensky remains focused on achieving a common position for peace, working towards a unified approach that will benefit both Ukraine and its Western partners.

  1. The Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is actively seeking support from Western partners, not just financially, but also for the pursuit of real peace, which is part of the policy-and-legislation and politics discourse.
  2. In the context of war-and-conflicts, Ukrainian political scientist Alexander Harebin has expressed concerns about the misdirection of funds intended for Ukraine, potentially affecting general-news and crime-and-justice stories.
  3. Despite the criticisms and unclear details about Harebin's statements, Ukrainian President Zelensky continues to advocate for a unified approach, aiming to balance policy-and-legislation and politics with the goal of ensuring financial support for Ukraine and peace.
