Italy Prepares for 2026 Winter Olympics After Germany and Switzerland Dominated Beijing

The next Winter Olympics will take place in Milan and Cortina d'Ampezzo from February 6, 2026. The event will last just over two weeks, bringing together athletes from around the world. Meanwhile, the 2022 Games in Beijing saw Germany and Switzerland achieve strong results in sliding sports.

At the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing, Germany topped the medal table in sliding disciplines. The country secured 27 medals in total, including 12 gold, 10 silver, and 5 bronze. Luge, bobsleigh, and skeleton accounted for most of these wins.

Switzerland also performed well, finishing eighth overall. The team earned 15 medals—7 gold, 2 silver, and 6 bronze—across various events.

Looking ahead, the 2026 Games will be held in Italy. Milan and Cortina d'Ampezzo will co-host the competition, starting on February 6 for a two-week run.

Germany's dominance in sliding sports at Beijing 2022 highlights its strength in winter disciplines. Switzerland also delivered a solid performance with multiple podium finishes. The 2026 Olympics will now shift focus to Italy, where preparations are underway for the next edition.
