Italian Politics Unveiled via Food Perspective with Stanley Tucci

Actor, author, and food aficionado Stanley Tucci is shaking his head at the growing "very far-right" movement across the globe, including in Italy. The 64-year-old, who hosts the new show Tucci In Italy, believes in painting a complete portrait of the Italian landscape and emphasizes inclusivity in his television series.

When grilled by our team, Tucci expressed his confusion over the escalating political shift towards the far-right and its divisive agenda against those who are different. He questions the very existence of a homogeneous group, given the diversity among people.

"I see no 'us'. We're all different, so I'm unsure what the issue is there," Tucci said.

In addition to showcasing Italy's world-renowned cuisine, Tucci wanted to delve into Italian politics and how it impacts the populace but through the lens of food. He emphasized that families, regardless of their composed backgrounds, dine together on traditional Sunday lunches in Italy, embodying the country's heavy emphasis on family values.

"Those people are families, but the government insists they're not," Tucci lamented, questioning the irony in Italy's negative birth rate and the disregard for embracing more young Italian families.

Italy legalized civil unions for same-sex couples in 2016, granting them many of the same rights and protections as traditional married heterosexual couples. However, the legislation does not include the right to joint adoption or in vitro fertilization. In 2023, Italy extended its initial ban on surrogacy to include arrangements made by its citizens abroad.

Absent from the spotlight, Tucci keeps his political views low-key, drawing attention primarily for his culinary and cultural explorations in Italy through his docuseries Tucci In Italy.
