Istanbul Music Festival's 53rd edition commences

Get ready to groove as the 53rd Istanbul Music Festival kicks off on June 11, 2025! Organized by the Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts (IKSV), this festival is set to be a mesmerizing cultural celebration showcasing over 45 renowned artists and ensembles from across the globe.

The grand opening ceremony will take place at the Atatürk Cultural Center (AKM), and this year's Honorary Award will be presented to the esteemed opera artist and educator, Professor Mesut İktu, while the 2024 Aydın Gün Encouragement Award will go to the extraordinary 18-year-old violinist, Bade Daştan.

So what can music lovers expect from this year's festival, themed "Beyond Borders"? IKSV Chairman of the Board, Bülent Eczacıbaşı, revealed that the festival will feature works by composers from various periods. These unique performances will grace unique venues scattered around Istanbul.

"We aim to make the festival an event for the masses," Eczacıbaşı explained. "By offering special concerts blending classical music with different artistic disciplines, featuring young soloists, and hosting free weekend events, we strive to broaden our audience and support young artists and art lovers."

Efruz Çakırkaya, the Festival Director, echoed these sentiments. She explained that this year's festival will showcase a mix of Turkish, Greek, Iranian, and Azerbaijani music as well as boundary-pushing performances that fuse the old with the new. "We're presenting classical music in a way that breaks traditional norms, with multidisciplinary performances that blend works from the Baroque period to modern music with elements such as hip-hop dance, visual arts, theater, and painting," she said.

In true IKSV fashion, the festival offers more than just ticketed events. Free concerts and activities for the public are also available. On June 14 and 15, children's hip-hop dance workshops will be held at Yıldız Park and Fenerbahçe Park, while yoga sessions accompanied by live music and delightful concert repertoires will follow on both days.

The 53rd Istanbul Music Festival runs until June 26 and promises to be a festival that transcends boundaries and offers a unique fusion of music, dance, and art. So mark your calendars, purchase your tickets, and get ready to embark on a musical journey beyond the beaten path!

Don't miss out on the action!
