In the ongoing operation that began several weeks ago, the conflict between Israeli forces and Hamas in Gaza City continues to escalate. According to Israeli tallies, about 1,200 people have been killed in the October 2023 Hamas attack, with 251 people taken hostage. Remarkably, around 20 of these hostages are reported to still be alive.

The operation, led by the Israeli government under Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, has intensified its ground operations against Hamas. The movement of Israeli forces includes infantry, tanks, and artillery, backed by the air force. Israeli forces are advancing towards the inner parts of Gaza City.

Effie Defrin, an Israeli military spokesman, estimated that 450,000 people from Gaza City had moved southward due to the ongoing conflict. Hundreds of thousands of Palestinians have fled Gaza City since Israel announced its intention to take control on August 10.

The Palestinian Telecommunications Company has had its services cut off due to the ongoing aggression and targeting of the main network routes. However, by nightfall, the Palestinian Telecommunications Company had reactivated fixed internet and landline services in Gaza. Several Palestinians reported that Internet and phone services had come back in Gaza City.

The armed wing of Hamas stated that the hostages are distributed throughout the neighborhoods of Gaza City. Families of the Israeli hostages have been imploring the Israeli government to negotiate a ceasefire with Hamas to free their loved ones.

The World Health Organization warned of critical shortages of blood in Gaza hospitals, which could cause services to grind to a halt within days. The territory's health ministry reported most of these deaths occurred in Gaza City. The total Palestinian death toll from the two-year war surpassed 65,000 on Wednesday, according to the Gaza health authorities.

In addition to the loss of life, at least 85 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli strikes or gunfire across the Gaza Strip in the past 24 hours. Four more Palestinians, including a child, have died of malnutrition and starvation in the past 24 hours, raising the death toll from such causes to at least 435 people, including 147 children, since the war started. A greater number of Palestinians are staying put in battered homes or makeshift tent encampments within Gaza City.

The Israeli military stated that at least four of its personnel have been killed during combat in southern Gaza. The current government supporting the Israeli Defense Forces in Gaza City is the Israeli government led by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The Israeli government has approved military plans for the capture of Gaza City.

As the conflict continues, the international community is urged to intervene and broker a ceasefire to prevent further loss of life and ensure the safety and wellbeing of all civilians caught in the crossfire.
