Israel's FM Sa'ar Strengthens Ties in India, Discusses Military Deal
Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar recently concluded a visit to India, where he held meetings with key officials, including External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval. The trip underscored the strong strategic partnership between the two nations, marked by mutual respect and trust.
During his visit, Sa'ar described India as a 'global superpower', reflecting the growing influence and importance of the South Asian nation on the global stage. He also recalled a significant show of support from Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who was the first world leader to call Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu following Hamas terror attacks.
The ministers discussed a potential military agreement, with an MoU on defence currently in the works. Sa'ar stressed the importance of dismantling the Hamas terror state, a key aspect of the Trump peace plan. Despite India's warmth towards Israel, it has maintained its traditional stance on the Palestine issue, as noted by Professor Khinvraj Jangid.
India invited Israel to the AI Impact Summit and hinted at reviving talks on the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor, further strengthening bilateral ties. However, Professor Jangid also suggested that a potential visit by Netanyahu to India might not yield immediate tangible benefits for India.
Gideon Sa'ar's visit to India reinforced the strategic partnership between the two nations, with discussions on a military agreement and invitations to key events. Despite differing views on the Palestine issue, India's relationship with Israel continues to grow, with both nations expressing a desire to strengthen ties.
