Israeli woman dies following West Bank gun injury

A pregnant Israeli woman, Tzeela Gez, was murdered in a shooting attack near the settlement of Bruchin in the northern West Bank on May 14, 2025. Her husband, Hananel, sustained injuries during the incident but survived.

The couple was en route to the hospital in Bruchin for Gez to deliver their baby when their vehicle came under gunfire. Medical teams in Beilinson Hospital, near Tel Aviv, tried to resuscitate Gez but ultimately pronounced her dead. The baby was delivered via caesarean section and is currently receiving medical care.

The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) have since deployed troops and drones for search operations in the area, while the Palestinian Authority security forces have been involved in separate incidents. In Tubas, Palestinian Authority security forces killed a Palestinian Islamic Jihad operative during an arrest operation.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has expressed his shock over the incident and vowed justice for the victims. Hamas, while praising the shooting, did not claim responsibility for the attack.

The incident has heightened tensions in the region, and subsequent security operations and confrontations between Israeli forces and Palestinian groups have resulted in multiple casualties. The killing of a pregnant woman has garnered widespread media coverage and condemnation.
