Get the scoop on Oliver Masucci's latest project, "The German," where he takes on a suspenseful role set against the backdrop of the Gaza war in Israel.

The American-Israeli historical series is set to hit Magenta TV in Germany soon, following its success at Europe's largest series festival, "Series Mania," in northern France. Masucci, a 56-year-old German actor, shared his experiences at an event at the Sam Spiegel Film and Television School in Jerusalem.

In "The German," Masucci portrays a German Jew who survived Auschwitz and lives with his family in a kibbutz on the Sea of Galilee. The Israeli secret service Mossad forces him to join the hunt for Nazi criminals in Germany, revealing dark secrets from his past. The series was created by Ronit Weiss-Berkowitz ("The girl from Oslo") and Moshe Zonder, known for forming the series "Fauda" and "Teheran." Gabriel Bibliowicz directed the series.

Masucci's children initially hesitated to travel to Israel during the war, but he believed it was crucial for their shared experience. They also visited destroyed Israeli villages on the border with the Gaza Strip and spoke to survivors of the Hamas massacre on October 7, 2023.

To authentically capture his character's story, Masucci learned Hebrew for the series, which is set in 1970 and filmed in German, English, and Hebrew. Despite initially refusing to speak Hebrew, he eventually agreed, proving his dedication to the project.

"The German" masterfully merges themes of espionage, historical reckoning, and international cooperation, making it a must-watch series.
