GAZA UPDATE: At least 16 lives lost in relentless Israeli attacks over the weekend

Overflowing sorrow echoes down the crowded streets of Gaza City, as the civil defense agency reports a gruesome toll from Sunday's Israeli air strikes. The latest fatalities claim the lives of 16 souls, including three young children.

The carnage unfolded in the dead of night in Khan Yunis governorate. Six locals met their end under the cover of darkness, with two young brothers, ages five and two, among the casualties in an apartment in Al-Mawasi.

Mourning soon reverberated through the local community once again, as officials announced 10 more deaths in a subsequent strike on a tent in Al-Mawasi. Among them was a little child and seven women.

As the sun rose, a military statement revealed Israeli forces "struck more than 100 suspected militant targets" throughout the Gaza Strip over the last two days, claiming to have located "weapons caches" and killed "multiple militants" in the south.

Israeli authorities have a history of escalating their military operations in Gaza, especially since the resumption of their campaign on March 18, 2025[1][3], following a tense two-month truce in their ongoing war with Hamas.

Session of negotiations centered on unsettled matters related to the Gaza war provoked by Hamas's October 2023 attack, including disagreements concerning hostage releases, aid access, and post-conflict governance[1][2].

The health ministry in Gaza reported 2,436 casualties due to Israel's escalating campaign, with the overall death toll now topping 52,535[3].

Israeli forces have withheld aid supplies to Gaza since March 2, intensifying urgency as the humanitarian crisis spreads and its effects became more dire[2]. Facing international criticism, Israel claims the blockade as a strategic means to compel Hamas to release the hostages in Gaza’s custody.

U.N. agencies have pleaded for Israel to withdraw its restrictions, warning of a grim future for Gazans that could lead to famine[2].
