Israeli Air Strikes Escalate Across Southern Lebanon and Bekaa Valley
May 22nd, 2025 - 05:41 GMT
In a series of intense airstrikes on Tuesday, Israeli warplanes launched attacks on multiple locations across southern Lebanon and the Bekaa Valley. The bombings targeted strategic heights, semi-urban areas, and potential Hezbollah operational depths and logistical hubs, causing visible damage to residential infrastructure in towns like Toul and Toulin in Nabatieh.
Additional strikes were reported in other regions, including Mahmoudiya, Al-Qulayleh, Shemaa, Barghouz, and various strategic hills and corridors that are often used for arms transit and storage. Israeli planes attacked a building in Toul that had already been damaged in previous incidents, after issuing warnings for the area's evacuation. The resulting fallout included thick smoke, local emergency responses, and further disruption of civilian life.
These attacks follow a series of operations by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) between May 12 and May 18, 2025, which targeted Hezbollah positions across various Lebanese governorates. The IDF reportedly killed four Hezbollah operatives and injured two individuals, one of whom was a soldier from the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF).
Lebanese authorities have not released detailed statements regarding the cross-border skirmishes, but the context suggests concern and likely condemnation of Israeli violations within Lebanese territory. The Lebanese Army could potentially ramp up its engagement to preserve the country's sovereignty and protect civilians from further attacks.
