Israeli military advances deeper into Gaza City, prompting many Palestinians to leave and the death toll climbing beyond 65,000.
In the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas, a coalition of leading aid groups has called upon the international community to take stronger measures to halt the offensive on Gaza. Prominent organisations such as Médecins Sans Frontières (Doctors Without Borders) and UNICEF have issued urgent pleas to protect civilians and humanitarian workers amid the escalating crisis.
The war in Gaza began in 2023 when Hamas-led militants stormed into southern Israel, resulting in the deaths of around 1,200 people, mostly civilians, and the abduction of 251 others. The U.S. ceasefire proposal was being reviewed by the Hamas negotiating team when the Israeli strike occurred.
Overnight strikes have claimed the lives of at least 16 people, including women and children, according to hospital officials. The Israeli military is reviewing an incident where Israeli strikes cut off internet and telephone services in northern Gaza. The Gaza Health Ministry reported that the Palestinian death toll in the Israel-Hamas war has surpassed 65,000.
The Israeli military has opened another corridor south of Gaza City for two days beginning Wednesday to allow more people to evacuate. However, an estimated 1 million Palestinians were living in the Gaza City region before warnings to evacuate began ahead of the offensive. Phone and internet services have been cut off in Gaza, making it harder for Palestinians to summon ambulances during the military's offensive.
Israeli bombardment has destroyed vast areas of Gaza, displacing around 90 percent of the population, and causing a catastrophic humanitarian crisis. The Israeli military claims the towers struck were being used by Hamas to watch troops. The Gaza Health Ministry said multiple Israeli strikes hit Rantisi Hospital for children in Gaza City on Tuesday night.
The Israeli military's push into Gaza City continued on Wednesday, with Israeli troops and tanks moving deeper into the city. The war's escalation has not gone unnoticed, with Qatar's Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemning Israel's ground offensive in the strongest terms.
Ghazi Hamad, a senior official from Hamas, made his first public appearance following the Israeli strike on the militant group in Qatar earlier this month. Hamad accused the United States of being a bad mediator and siding with Israel during his live interview.
In a controversial move, Israel's far-right finance minister discussed with the Trump administration how to share the proceeds from potential real estate development in Gaza. This development has infuriated Arab leaders.
As the conflict continues, the international community is urged to take decisive action to prevent further loss of life and humanitarian disaster in Gaza City.
