Israeli military actions result in the deaths of at least 24 individuals, as reported by rescue workers in Gaza.

IN Gaza CITY: Gaza's civil defense agency announced on Thursday that the Israeli bombardment has resulted in the death of at least 24 individuals since the wee hours of the night. This carnage took place in the war-torn territory, which has been subjected to an Israeli aid blockade for approximately two long months.

The vicious cycle of conflicts resumed in the Gaza Strip on March 18, following the collapse of a two-month truce. The disputes between Israel and the Palestinian militant group Hamas, the group responsible for the 2023 attack that ignited the conflict, were the root causes of the ceasefire's collapse.

Civil defense official, Mohammed al-Mughayyir, reported that the death toll includes eight people who perished in an Israeli air strike on the Abu Sahlul family home situated in Khan Yunis refugee camp in the south of the territory. Four people lost their lives in an air strike, which targeted the Al-Tuffah neighborhood in Gaza City's east.

In addition to these deceased individuals, at least twelve others sadly lost their lives in seven separate attacks scattered across the Palestinian territory. One of these attacks claimed the lives of innocent people sheltering in a tent near the central city of Deir el-Balah.

"We arrived at the scene and found all these houses reduced to rubble. Among the debris were children, women, and young people who were brutally murdered," said Ahmed Abu Zarqa, a local resident, following a devastating strike in Khan Yunis.

"This is not a way to live! We've had enough, we're exhausted! Enough, already!

"We don't know what to do with our lives anymore. We'd rather die than live like this," he lamented.

Images captured by AFP show residents sifting through the debris in search of bodies, which were later carried away covered in blankets.

At Nasser Hospital in Khan Yunis, medics frantically attended to a wounded, screaming child, who was swiftly taken out of an ambulance.

According to the health ministry in the Hamas-administered Gaza, a total of 2,326 people have perished since Israel resumed its attacks, bringing the overall death toll since the war began to 52,418.

The Palestinian group has abducted a total of 251 people, 58 of whom are still being held captive in Gaza, including 34 individuals whom the Israeli military claims are deceased. Israel asserts that its renewed military campaign aims to compel Hamas to release the remaining hostages.

Before reinitiating its military campaign, Israel imposed a complete aid blockade in Gaza, preventing the entry of essentials such as food and medicine for around sixty days. UN rights chief Volker Turk denounced the situation in Gaza as a "humanitarian catastrophe."

"It appears Israel is inflicting on Palestinians in Gaza conditions of life that are increasingly incompatible with their continued existence in Gaza," he stated this week.

As of May 2025, the Gaza conflict has intensified since Israel ended the ceasefire in March 2025, leading to severe humanitarian consequences. According to the Hamas-run health ministry report, over 52,243 people have lost their lives, with an additional 18-24 reported fatalities daily in the latest strikes. More than 116,900 individuals have been injured since October 2023. The ongoing military operations have expanded ground operations, with control of around 50% of Gaza, including buffer zones around Khan Yunis and Rafah. Daily aerial bombardments have targeted homes, shelters, and public spaces.

The Israeli aid blockade has critically impacted the territory, depleting UN food stockpiles, forcing 660,000 children out of school, and causing malnutrition in thousands of children. UN officials strongly condemn these conditions as "cruel collective punishment," which may constitute a potential war crime[2][3].

The UN, Amnesty International, and human rights experts accuse Israel of engaging in acts that could be considered “genocidal,” such as using starvation as a weapon, systematically destroying infrastructure, and targeting healthcare workers[3]. The most recent strikes in Khan Younis continue to kill innocent victims, including children and women[4].

  1. Hundreds of lives have been lost in the ongoing conflict in Gaza, with over 52,243 people confirmed dead since March 2025, according to the Hamas-run health ministry report.
  2. The political climate between Israel and the Palestinian militant group Hamas, incompatible conditions of life, and the continuous war-and-conflicts have led to the devastating situation in Gaza, which has been deemed a humanitarian catastrophe.
  3. Amidst the general-news of the Gaza conflict, crimes and injustices have been escalating, with the Palestinian group reportedly abducting a total of 251 people, 58 of whom are still being held captive in Gaza.
  4. The Israeli blockade of essentials, including food and medicine, from entering Gaza for around sixty days, highlighted by UN rights chief Volker Turk, has been denounced as a form of cruel collective punishment, potentially constituting a war crime.
