Dirty Business or Necessary Measures? - Israel's Ambassador Back Merz for Controversial Remarks
Israeli Diplomat Speaks Out in Defense of Merz Amidst Controversy - Israeli diplomat advocates for Merz amidst facing backlash
Let's get down to it!
Israel's Ambassador Ron Prosor has stood by Friedrich Merz, the German Chancellor, after his contentious statement about Israel's military operations on Iran's nuclear facilities. "Merz's choice of words hits the nail on the head," Prosor told DW.
During the G7 summit in Canada, Merz declared that Israel was performing some grubby, unpopular tasks for everyone's benefit when tackling Iran's nuclear threat. His comment sparked criticism from high-ranking officials within Merz's own party.
The discussion started with ZDF moderator Diana Zimmermann using the term "grubby task." Merz picked it up, and his full statement was: "Zimmermann, thanks for the phrase 'grubby task.' That's the grubby work Israel's doing for all of us. We're affected by this regime too. This regime has brought chaos and strife.”
Prosor doesn't see issue with the phrasing, stating: "The Iranian nuclear program is a direct threat to Israel, but it also puts the world at risk. The missiles bombarding Tel Aviv and Jerusalem could land in Berlin, Paris, or London. The supply chain of terror must be dismantled."
The Heart of the Matter
Prosor sees some progress in the disruptions of weapon supplies to the war in Ukraine and a reduction in Houthi attacks on traffic between Europe and Asia. The worldwide attention is focused on Europe's readiness to defend its values and interests autonomously in this critical juncture.
