In a bid to bring an end to the ongoing conflict in the Gaza Strip, Israel dispatched a delegation for peace talks in Qatar on Sunday. The talks, facilitated by the United States, Egypt, and Qatar, aimed to find a solution to the ongoing violence that has left many lives in ruins.

Hamas, the ruling party in Gaza, has been vocal about its demands in the conflict. The primary demands of Hamas include a permanent end to the war and the release of Palestinian prisoners held by Israel in exchange for hostages. Specifically, Hamas wants a firm guarantee that hostilities will cease permanently, not just temporarily.

The latest ceasefire proposal outlines a 60-day ceasefire during which Hamas would hand over ten living and eighteen dead hostages. Israeli forces would withdraw to a buffer zone along Gaza's borders with Israel and Egypt. Significant humanitarian aid would be allowed into Gaza, distributed by UN agencies and the Palestinian Red Crescent. Palestinian prisoners would be released in exchange for hostages, though the exact number is yet to be agreed upon.

However, this proposal does not guarantee a permanent end to the conflict, only a temporary ceasefire with negotiations for a permanent deal to take place during those 60 days. Hamas has requested changes but has not specified what they are.

The Israeli government’s response involves approval by Israel's security Cabinet to send aid into northern Gaza, where civilians face severe food shortages. Israel’s agreement to a 60-day ceasefire under specific terms, with former President Donald Trump giving a personal guarantee to Hamas that Israel will adhere to the ceasefire to build trust, reflecting concerns after a prior ceasefire collapsed earlier in the year due to resumed fighting by Israel.

Despite the peace talks, the offensive in Gaza continued without a let-up. Explosions occurred in the Gaza Strip in the early hours, resulting in numerous deaths among Palestinians over the weekend. Some Palestinians who were awaiting humanitarian aid were among the victims.

The ceasefire proposal has been met with mixed reactions. Benjamin Netanyahu, the Israeli Prime Minister, has warned against the changes demanded by Hamas, while Hamas has expressed willingness to accept the ceasefire proposal. However, Hamas has made further demands for changes in the ceasefire proposal.

The peace talks have not been without controversy. Benjamin Netanyahu faced protests from families of hostages in the streets, calling for a more decisive approach to secure the release of their loved ones. As the negotiations continue, both sides remain hopeful for a peaceful resolution to the conflict, with the fate of the 50 hostages still in Gaza hanging in the balance.

The peace talks, involving Israel, Hamas, the United States, Egypt, and Qatar, are focused on general news, politics, and war-and-conflicts, as they aim to find a permanent solution to the ongoing violence in the Gaza Strip. However, Hamas' primary demand is a firm guarantee for a permanent end to the war, which the latest ceasefire proposal does not provide.
