Israel sought to launch a coordinated strike against Iran's nuclear infrastructure, aided by the United States.

The United States and Iran are set to hold a second round of indirect talks this Saturday in Rome, following their first meeting in Oman last weekend. According to a source familiar with the matter, the discussions aim to ease tensions and find a diplomatic solution to the long-standing nuclear standoff.

In May 2020, Israel conducted a unilateral military strike against Iran's nuclear facilities, targeting nuclear sites, missile factories, and senior Iranian military personnel. However, the U.S. did not officially provide direct support for the operation, despite President Donald Trump voicing support for Israel's objectives and signaling openness to possible regime change in Iran. The U.S. presence in the region was reinforced militarily, with the deployment of jets and the USS Nimitz carrier, indicating strategic backing without direct operational involvement.

The New York Times reported that the U.S. was sought for support in Israel's planned attack on Iran's nuclear facilities, but the report did not specify whether the U.S. provided support for the operation. The report also did not mention any negotiations between the U.S. and Iran regarding the planned attack on Iran's nuclear facilities.

The first round of talks between the U.S. and Iran held in Oman last Saturday was described as "positive" and "constructive" by both parties. The New York Times report did not provide any updates on the status of these talks.

The intended goal of Israel's strike was to delay Iran's ability to develop a nuclear weapon by a year or more. The success of such a mission required U.S. support, but it remains unclear whether the U.S. provided any operational assistance to Israel during the attack.

The second round of talks between the U.S. and Iran is expected to take place in Rome, with the aim of finding a diplomatic solution to the nuclear standoff. The New York Times report did not provide information about any scheduled talks between the U.S. and Iran following the planned attack on Iran's nuclear facilities.
