The ongoing conflict in the Gaza Strip has seen a significant escalation in recent days, with numerous countries voicing their support for France's planned recognition of a Palestinian state at the UN General Assembly. Among these countries are the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, Belgium, Portugal, and France itself, alongside many Arab and Islamic nations.

The crisis began on October 7, 2023, when Hamas and other Islamic terrorists launched an attack on Israel, sparking a war that has since claimed the lives of thousands. According to the Hamas-controlled Health Ministry, around 65,000 Palestinians have been killed in the Gaza Strip during the war.

Israeli troops have been advancing towards the center of Gaza City in the northern Gaza Strip, with scattered skirmishes ongoing in the south of the coastal region. On Thursday, four Israeli soldiers were killed in Rafah due to an explosive device, and another two were killed in an attack at a border crossing between Jordan and the West Bank.

The Israeli army reported these incidents, stating that four soldiers were killed and three others injured by a roadside bomb in the Rafah area, and the Jordanian attacker was reportedly stabbing his victims before security forces 'neutralized' the attacker.

In an attempt to alleviate the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, a draft resolution was presented in the UN Security Council, requiring the Israeli government to lift all restrictions on the import of humanitarian aid to Gaza. However, the USA used its veto to block the resolution, remaining the only country to vote against the draft.

French President Emmanuel Macron has been vocal in his criticism of Israel's military actions, warning of Israel's reputation loss due to the many civilian casualties in the Gaza Strip. Macron has also been putting pressure on Israel to end the war, and he announced his official recognition of a Palestinian state by France at the UN General Assembly next week.

Hamas has threatened Israel, stating that Gaza will be a graveyard for Israeli soldiers, and they claim to have prepared thousands of ambushes and explosive devices in Gaza. However, these claims could not be independently verified. Hamas has also reportedly abducted hostages from Israel and distributed them across several neighborhoods of the city, but these claims are yet to be confirmed.

In a bid to control the flow of humanitarian aid, Israel's army chief Eyal Zamir reportedly advised the political leadership to temporarily halt humanitarian deliveries to the Gaza Strip via land from Jordan. The suspected attacker who carried out the truck bombing in Gaza arrived under the guise of delivering humanitarian aid.

As the conflict continues, the international community is urging both Israel and Hamas to find a peaceful resolution to the crisis, with many calling for an immediate ceasefire to prevent further loss of life.
