Israel Launches Attack on Lebanon; One Fatality, Eight Injuries Reported

Loose Canon

Israel's boots are hitting the ground in southern Lebanon hard and heavy, airstrike style. According to Lebanese officials and the Israeli military, it's been one hell of a blast since our last dance with Hezbollah under the truce.

Last Thursday, air raids sent shockwaves through the Nabatieh region, about 12km from the Israel-Lebanon border. At least one soul braced for the afterlife early, while eight others limped away with injuries, as per Lebanon's Health Ministry. Smoke billowed from the bombed hilltops as citizens scrammed from the blast zones.

Hit the Headlines

Israel's army boasted that their planes pulverized a "Hezbollah infrastructure site," but the small print was too blurry for confirmation. The silent treatment from Hezbollah followed suit, they've been hush-hush ever since they allegedly retreated to the border post-United States brokered armistice.

Lebanon's President Joseph Aoun kept his ear to the ground and eye on the southern Lebanon chaos, while Lebanon's Prime Minister Nawaf Salam publicly denounced the attacks.

"Enough is enough," Salam stated, "Israel's breaches of UN Resolution 1701 and ceasefire pacts must cease pronto. The Lebanese government stands firm against Israel's territorial occupation, period."

Although the truce brought a temporary halt to the fisticuffs, border skirmishes have been lingering, with Israel repeatedly breaking the ceasefire. Air raids across Lebanon's southern regions and Hezbollah-controlled neighborhoods in Beirut's southern suburbs never fail to light up the Israeli game plan.

Join the Rank and File

Hezbollah donned their fatigues and got cozy with Hamas, inviting a powder keg of trouble in Israel's ongoing war on Gaza. Hezbollah's deputy leader, Naim Qassem, swore that the group has dropped all arms from the border zone, adhering to the truce.

Still, the ceasefire has done little to quell tension. Israel's grip on five strategic hilltops along the border tightens while rockets launched from Lebanon have struck Israel twice, Hezbollah claiming innocent bystander status.

This latest escalation pumps up the volume on an age-old conflict, as Israel and Hezbollah continue to dance around the gory legacies of war.
