Israel is performing less-than-desirable tasks for us in Iran, according to Merz.

From a laid-back perspective:

Friedrich Merz, Germany's Federal Chancellor, calls Iran a terrorist regime while opening the door for negotiations.

Kananaskis - Friedrich Merz, CDU politician and Federal Chancellor of Germany, believes that Israel is standing tall in the conflict with Iran, doing the "filthy work" that the whole West should be thankful for. During a ZDF interview at the G7 summit in Canada, Merz paid respect to Israel's courage in dealing with the Iranian regime's terror, expressing concerns about a prolonged battle, potentially culminating in Iran obtaining a nuclear weapon. Merz also addressed Iran's drone deliveries to aid Russia's aggression against Ukraine.

Merz doubts if the U.S. President Donald Trump will order military intervention along with Israel, but it might be forthcoming, depending on whether the Iranian government is prepared to return to the negotiating table. "No decision yet by the American government," Merz told Welt TV. "This might be made soon," he added. Merz believes that the situation now hinges heavily on how the mullah regime responds to the opportunity to resume negotiations.

Merz's Optimism about US Sanctions against Russia and G7 Summit

Regarding American intervention, Merz expressed his belief that the U.S. doesn't need it at the moment, unless Iran reacts adversely against crucial supply or energy facilities. Furthermore, the Chancellor stated his concern about Iran's last, hidden enrichment facility, voicing suspicion that the U.S. government is currently pondering the use of bunker-busting weapons in Iran. However, he could not confirm if the U.S. government would actually execute this plan.

Merz's Perspective on the End of Iran's Government

The Chancellor expressed hope that Israel's attacks on Iranian nuclear facilities will finally bring an end to the Iranian government. "We're dealing with a terrorist regime, both domestically and internationally," said Merz. Yet, he left the door open for parts of the Iranian government to return to the negotiating table. German support for diplomatic efforts remains an option, depending on the Iranian government's willingness to negotiate. "If they are not ready to resume talks, then Israel will continue down this path," Merz said.

The future of the U.S. involvement in this situation hinges on how the Iranian government reacts, according to Merz.

  2. In his perspective, the future of politics regarding Iran, including potential US intervention, heavily depends on the response of the Iranian government to diplomatic efforts and the resumption of negotiations.
