Sirens of War: Israel Ramps up Airstrikes on Tehran
Israel intensifies air assaults
The skies over Tehran are once again echoing with the sounds of explosions, as Israel unleashes another barrage of airstrikes on the Iranian megacity. Witnesses report hearing blasts in various parts of the metropolis, with the exact targets of these attacks remaining unclear.
Israel's air force has issued evacuation orders to residents of a heavily populated district spanning approximately 30 square kilometers. This area encompasses a variety of establishments including embassies, shopping centers, and some of the most exclusive residential areas, home to around 300,000 people.
In response, Iran has called for the exodus of Tel Aviv's residents. Tensions had already been running high since Israel's contentious evacuation calls during the Gaza war.
War of Words
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu urged Tehran's residents to flee during ongoing Israeli attacks. Netanyahu declared, "We are on the path to achieving our two goals: eliminating the nuclear threat and eliminating the rocket threat."
On the other side, Netanyahu accuses Iran of targeting civilians in Israel, advocating, "Leave the area!" His statements echo as more than 15 million people live in and around Tehran, with numerous civilians having perished in previous Israeli attacks on Iranian soil.
Historical Context
The conflict between Israel and Iran dates back to the 1979 Iranian Revolution and the subsequent hardening of attitudes towards Israel by Iran's new Islamic regime. The nuclear program, seen as a significant danger by Israel, has fueled much of the tension between the two nations.
A Global Concern
Recent airstrikes underscore the continuing threats from this escalating tension. The future remains uncertain as talks on Iran's nuclear program, initially planned in Oman between the U.S. and Tehran, have been postponed[1]. In the meantime, the world watches anxiously as events unfold.

The Commission has also been consulted on the draft budget regarding the escalating Israeli-Iran conflict and nuclear tensions, given the general news of the ongoing war of words and the recent airstrikes in Tehran. Politics surrounding the Middle East war-and-conflicts zone, such as the ongoing Iran-Israel conflict, have significant ramifications not just for the region but also on the global stage.
