Israel has reportedly launched hundreds of combat jets, targeting various sites in Iran, with Tehran answering swiftly by launching more than 100 drones towards Israel. Both Israel and Jordan have managed to intercept the incoming drones and airborne objects.
The Israeli military confirmed they've successfully shot down Iranian drones in Syria, echoing an earlier report by Israeli broadcaster KAN. The military spokesperson also announced the launch of approximately 100 unmanned aerial vehicles towards Israel.
Jordan, too, reported intercepting multiple drones and other aerial objects that entered their airspace. Their air force and air defense systems efficiently countered these threats.
Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, in a following statement, criticized Israel for committing a crime against Iran, emphasizing Israel's "vile nature." He warned that Israel would face a harsh punishment for their actions. "With this attack, the Zionist regime has prepared a bitter fate for themselves, which they will certainly face," Khamenei said.
In anticipation of a possible Iranian counterattack, Israel's Defense Minister Benny Gantz declared a special state of emergency throughout Israel, suspecting hundreds of ballistic missiles could be used as part of the counterattacks.
In a series of early morning announcements, the Israeli military declared that its first phase of attacks on Iran had been completed, involving over 200 combat jets. The operation targeted key Iranian military and nuclear facilities across the country, affecting multiple militarily significant locations and "nuclear targets" scattered throughout Iran.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced that the purpose of these attacks was to dismantle the "heart" of Iran's uranium enrichment program and its ballistic missile program. He vowed the Israeli military operation against Iran would continue for as long as necessary.
