Spokesperson Daniel Hagari claimed that videos, audio recordings, and satellite images depict Hamas positioning itself near health facilities, such as the Sheikh Hamad Hospital in the Gaza Strip, which is allegedly connected to the organization's tunnel network. The Indonesian hospital in the area is also reportedly surrounded by Hamas' military infrastructure.
Israel has made efforts to warn Gaza's civilians, dropping 1.5 million leaflets, broadcasting over six million recorded messages, and calling approximately 20,000 individuals. However, the exact validity of these claims remains to be independently verified.
These allegations against Hamas raise several concerns, such as the group's use of tunnels beneath hospitals for command centers, weapon storage, and hostage holding. The extent to which Hamas employs these tactics is a topic of ongoing debate. There are reports suggesting that the Kamal Adwan Hospital in Gaza served as a hideout for terrorists holding hostages. However, critics argue that Israel's evidence is insufficient to prove the full extent of Hamas's misuse of hospitals.
Hamas's alleged hiding of its military operations within hospitals could potentially violate international humanitarian law. The misuse of civilians and civilian infrastructure in times of conflict is generally considered a breach of such laws. It is essential to address these allegations and ensure accountability if found to be true, though due process is necessary for any such determinations.
