Explosive Clash: Hamas and Israel in a Violent Standoff

- Israel faces rocket attacks from Hamas

Skip the boring stuff, let's get straight to the point. Israel's been dealing with some serious fireworks lately, courtesy of the Gaza Strip. Israel's army claims rockets were launched from the southern region, towards its territories, with two landing in isolated areas. Sirens echoed across central Israel, even in Tel Aviv, earlier this week.

In response, Israel, this Tuesday, unleashed a barrage of airstrikes on the Gaza Strip. As of Wednesday, they commenced a fresh ground operation. Thursday saw the Salah al-Din Road, the main north-south highway in the Gaza Strip, getting shut down by the Israeli military as part of its ground operation. They cited protecting residents as the reason.

Meanwhile, the White House threw its weight behind Israel, with Trump's presidency pledging unwavering support for Israel's counteroffensives in Gaza. Trump had previously warned Hamas that they'd be in for a ruckus if they didn't free all hostages, as shared by Trump's spokesperson, Karoline Leavitt.

Hamas claims 504 deaths since the initiation of the intense Israeli attacks, a figure that cannot be independently verified. The UN Palestinian refugee agency's head, Philippe Lazzarini, denounced the Israeli attacks, stating, "The people of Gaza are repeatedly faced with their worst nightmares before our very eyes."

A ceasefire, initially successful since January 19, expired on March 1, without a successor agreement being reached. Ongoing negotiations continue to break down due to mutual distrust and escalating tensions.

The head of Hamas' internal security, Rashid Jahjouh, was declared 'eliminated' by the Israeli army spokesman, Avichay Adraee, earlier this week. Jahjouh, a high-ranking Hamas official, was previously the security chief after his predecessor, Sami Udeh, was killed by Israel in 2024.
