The humanitarian crisis in Gaza continues to draw international concern, with mounting pressure on Israel to allow unrestricted aid access. Two German military aircraft have been sent to the Middle East to aid in the supply of humanitarian aid, following a new action that was approved by Israel.

The Islamic Hamas, which controls Gaza, has declared its readiness to continue negotiations on a ceasefire in the ongoing conflict, but only if the humanitarian situation in the coastal region improves first. The Gaza Strip, home to around two million residents, is reportedly on the brink of a famine.

Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul (CDU) is increasing pressure on Israel, stating that the current situation in Gaza is intolerable and needs to change immediately. Wadephul has called on Israel to open border crossings into the war zone for aid to reach people in sufficient quantities. However, air supply is considered ineffective due to the relatively small quantities compared to truck transports.

Germany's concern over the humanitarian toll in Gaza is growing. The German Foreign Minister has stated that the number of victims is "too high" and emphasized the need to ease the suffering of civilians in Gaza. Germany appears concerned about Israel's risk of diplomatic isolation as international pressure mounts and is supporting calls for improved humanitarian conditions.

The United States supports a militarized aid distribution system alongside Israel but faces criticism for this approach, which the UN says fails to meet the vast humanitarian needs. The US remains a key player in ongoing diplomatic efforts but faces calls to push for more effective aid access and a ceasefire to alleviate the crisis.

Slovenia has become the first European country to impose an arms embargo on Israel, further increasing international pressure. Meanwhile, US special envoy Steve Witkoff and US Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee are visiting the Gaza Strip today to assess the situation.

Germany had already participated in airdrops over the Gaza Strip last year. In Jordan, the planes were refueled and equipped for the missions. The new action is part of international efforts to supply aid to the needy population in Gaza, but Israel faces international isolation if a fundamental improvement for the people in the region is not achieved.

The German government opposes such a step regarding the annexation of the West Bank, following the recent endorsement of a resolution supporting annexation by the Israeli parliament, which has sparked significant international criticism. The international community continues to call for a peaceful resolution to the ongoing conflict in Gaza and the West Bank, emphasizing the need for unimpeded humanitarian aid access and a ceasefire to alleviate the crisis.

The German Foreign Minister, Johann Wadephul, has expressed his concern about the escalating humanitarian crisis in Gaza, calling for immediate changes in Israel's policies to allow sufficient aid access. Following this, the Commission is also proposing to extend the deadline for the adoption of new rules for the implementation of the common fisheries policy by 1 January 2002, shifting focus from politics and legislation towards policy-and-legislation and general-news such as war-and-conflicts. The international community's rallying calls for a peaceful resolution in Gaza and the West Bank are gaining momentum, highlighting the need for unimpeded humanitarian aid access and a ceasefire.
