Greta Thunberg Kicked Out of Israel: Activist Heads to France and Sweden
Israel expelled environmental activist Greta Thunberg.
In a bold move, Israeli authorities have booted climate activist Greta Thunberg from their borders. Thunberg embarked on a journey from Israel, intending to make her way to Sweden via France.
Earlier in June, Greta Thunberg joined the "Freedom Flotilla" coalition aboard the ship, the Madleen. This seafaring group embarked from the Sicilian port, destined for Gaza, with symbols of hope—rice, flour, and baby formula in tow.
The Madleen vessel, referred to by Israel's Ministry of Foreign Affairs as the "selfie yacht," was intercepted by Israeli naval special forces in the early hours of June 9.
Despite the passengers' attempts to present deportation documents and leave Israel, the Ministry stated that those refusing to comply would be swiftly brought before an Israeli court to deliberate on their immediate deportation.
Huwaida Arraf, a representative of the Freedom Flotilla Coalition, asserted that Israel breached international law by blockading Gaza. Israeli authorities, in contrast, considered the attempt to pierce the maritime blockade of Gaza as deliberate support for the Hamas group.
