The humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip continues to worsen, with shortages of food and medicine affecting thousands of Palestinians. According to a report released by Amnesty International, this crisis is not an unintended consequence but the intended result of Israel's plans and measures over the past 22 months.

The report, which was based on interviews with 19 Palestinians living in refugee camps in the Gaza Strip and two health representatives, accuses Israel of a "deliberate hunger campaign" in the region. The testimonies show that the "deadly combination of hunger and disease" in the Gaza Strip is not an accidental byproduct of Israel's military operations, but rather a deliberate outcome of Israel's strategies.

The crisis in the Gaza Strip began on October 7, 2023, when Hamas launched a large-scale attack on Israel. Since then, Israel has been conducting large-scale military operations in the region. According to Israeli figures, more than 1,200 people were killed and 251 were taken hostage to the Gaza Strip during the war.

However, the situation in the Gaza Strip is not just a matter of military conflict. Amnesty International's report states that this is part of the ongoing "genocide" against the Palestinian population of the Gaza Strip. The report further states that the situation in the Gaza Strip is not an isolated incident, but part of a broader pattern of human rights abuses against Palestinians.

The report corroborates evidence from independent UN-backed monitoring mechanisms and humanitarian organizations, which portray a grave humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip. For instance, the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC), a UN-backed global food security body, has recently confirmed famine conditions in Gaza, particularly in Gaza Governorate (including Gaza City). Over 20,000 children have been treated for acute malnutrition, and at least 16 hunger-related deaths have been recorded.

UN and humanitarian experts report widespread starvation, malnutrition, infrastructure collapse (70% destroyed), and a mounting death toll linked to hunger and health system breakdown. UN human rights officials and agencies urge Israel to restore the impartial UN humanitarian system and lift blockades fully to allow unrestricted aid access, underscoring that current restrictions are exacerbating starvation and may amount to collective punishment against civilians.

However, the Israeli Defense body COGAT denies famine claims, citing alleged unreliable sources. These denials contrast sharply with coordinated UN agency analyses and independent assessments of living conditions affecting more than half a million people facing catastrophic food insecurity.

The news of this crisis has been reported by AFP, highlighting the urgent need for action to address this humanitarian disaster. The ongoing conflict in the Gaza Strip continues to have a devastating impact on the lives of children, with many facing malnutrition and disease. The international community must take action to alleviate this crisis and ensure that the rights of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip are protected.
