Israel allegedly assassinates Hamas commander in cross-border attack in Lebanon

Revised Article:

In a grim turn of events, Lebanon's National News Agency announced a pre-dawn strike that claimed a life. The deceased was identified as Khaled Ahmed, according to Hamas. This fellow was reportedly heading to offer his prayers at the time.

Hamas eulogized Khaled, referring to him as a "heroic martyr." In a heartfelt statement, they vowed to keep pushing forward on the path of resistance, honoring their commitment to God, their people, and their nation.

Israel's military conceded to the killing of Khaled, branding him as the chief operative in Hamas' Western Brigade in Lebanon. They alleged that Khaled had been actively involved in smuggling weapons and organizing a series of assaults against Israel.

Despite a truce agreed upon on November 27, 20XX, Israel has persisted in launching frequent attacks in Lebanon. Hezbollah had pledged to withdraw its troops north of Lebanon's Litani River and dismantle their military infrastructure to the south, as per the terms of the truce. However, Israel has opted to retain troops in five "strategic" positions.

According to a Lebanese security source, Hezbollah has, indeed, pulled back its troops from the south of the Litani and dismantled the majority of its military infrastructure in the area.

Lebanon asserts that they have adhered to their end of the bargain and have requested the international community to intervene, urging Israel to cease its attacks and withdraw from the five border positions.

Last week, Lebanon's Higher Defence Council issued a stern warning to Hamas for using Lebanon as a launchpad for attacks on Israel. Since then, Hamas has handed over several Palestinians suspected of firing rockets from Lebanon into Israel in March.

It's worth noting that another senior Hamas official by the name of Khaled Ahmed Ahmed was reportedly assassinated by the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) on May 7, 2025, in Sidon, southern Lebanon, due to his alleged threats against the State of Israel and its citizens[1]. If the recently deceased Khaled Ahmed is indeed the same individual, he fits the description of the senior Hamas official who was involved in operations in Lebanon. But without more context, it's difficult to confirm whether they are the same person.
