"Israel acts covertly to benefit us all"
In a candid interview during the G7 summit in Canada, Chancellor Merz made bold remarks about the Israel-Iran conflict. Heasserted that Israel is essentially serving as the world's protector by impeding Iran from developing nuclear weapons.
Merz repeatedly emphasized Israel's right to exist and defend itself.
Merz lauds Israeli bravery
He applauded the Israeli government for its actions in Iran. "I can't help but express the utmost admiration for the Israeli army and leadership," he stated. "They've had the guts to take a stand against this threat." He adds that avoiding Israeli action might have led to prolonged turmoil, potentially ending with Iran wielding a nuclear weapon.
International terrorism link
He also pointed out the connection between international terrorism and the Iranian regime. "This regime of clerics has brought destruction and chaos worldwide - through attacks, killings, and its links to Hezbollah, Hamas, and even Russia," said Merz. He warned, "This regime is a terrorist entity, both internally and externally. It's high time it met its end."
Nuclear threat
If it weren't for Israel's strikes against Iran, the world might have allowed Iran to develop operational nuclear weapons. As for whether the U.S., Israel's key ally, will up its involvement in the conflict remains uncertain to Merz. However, he suspects that the U.S. administration is deliberating on employing bunker-busting U.S. weapons in Iran.
Uranium fortress requires US weapons
One of Iran's uranium enrichment facilities is fortified deep within a mountain, making it virtually indestructible by Israel's current arsenal. To obliterate this facility, Israel would require those very bunker-busting U.S. weapons, whose use President Trump is reportedly mulling over with his advisors.
- Merz believes Israel's actions against Iran are vital, as Iran might have developed operational nuclear weapons without them.
- Merz also associates the Iranian regime with international terrorism, linking it to Hezbollah, Hamas, and Russia, and calls for it to meet its end.
