Isles Day-to-Day: Hogberg Recalled, Sorokin to Miss Tuesday's Game vs Devils
The New York Islanders will be without starting goaltender Ilya Sorokin for Tuesday’s game against the New Jersey Devils. A minor injury has sidelined him, though he is expected back after the holiday break. In his place, the team has recalled Marcus Hogberg from their AHL affiliate on an emergency basis.
Sorokin has been a key player this season, posting a 12-10-2 record with a 2.55 goals-against average and a .910 save percentage. He has also recorded three shutouts. His absence, though temporary, leaves a gap in the net for the upcoming match.
Hogberg, called up from the Bridgeport Islanders, brings mixed results from his time in the AHL this year. With the minor-league team, he holds a 5-7-3 record, a 3.08 goals-against average, and an .881 save percentage. His brief stint with the Islanders earlier in the 2024-2025 season saw similar numbers: a 2-6-3 record, a 3.38 goals-against average, and an .878 save percentage. The team has not confirmed who will start in goal for Tuesday’s game. Sorokin’s return is anticipated once the holiday break concludes on December 26.
Hogberg’s recall provides short-term cover while Sorokin recovers. The Islanders will need to adjust without their top goaltender for at least one game. Sorokin’s planned return after the break should restore stability between the pipes.
