Isle of Man shuts two major roads as ice and snow create hazards

Two major roads on the Isle of Man have shut due to severe snow and ice. The A18 AMD Road between Ramsey and Creg Ny Baa, along with Tholt Y Will Road from the S Bends, were both closed after conditions worsened. Authorities have warned drivers to avoid the areas until further notice.

The closures came after police assessed the roads as too dangerous, despite efforts to salt them. Gritters were sent out to spread sand and salt, but the icy conditions persisted. The AMD Road will stay shut overnight, with a review planned for midday on Thursday, November 20.

The Tholt Y Will Road remains blocked from the S Bends up to its junction with the AMD Road. A yellow weather warning for ice and frost is also in place, lasting from Wednesday morning until Friday afternoon. The Isle of Man Department of Infrastructure has urged motorists to take extra care or avoid travel in affected zones.

The closures follow ongoing attempts to improve road safety, including gritting operations. Officials will reassess conditions on Thursday, but the yellow warning suggests icy patches may linger. Drivers are advised to check for updates before travelling in the area.
