Isle of Man Police Trainees Kayak 40 Miles for RNLI

Trainee police constables from the Isle of Man Constabulary have successfully completed a 40-mile kayaking challenge in support of the RNLI. The event, held at Mooragh Park Lake in Ramsey, raised more than £1,400 for the charity's lifesaving operations.

The team began their challenge at 8am on Saturday, November 1, with two trainees kayaking at a time, rotating until the 40-mile distance was reached. The group chose this distance to reflect the 40 call-outs responded to by the RNLI Isle of Man in 2024. After seven hours of continuous kayaking, they finished the challenge at around 3pm. The trainees wanted their challenge to honour the RNLI's commitment to saving lives and keeping the community safe.

The Isle of Man has five lifeboat stations and holds a special place in the RNLI's history, as its founder, Sir William Hillary, was a Manx resident. The RNLI relies on volunteers and public donations, having been saving lives at sea for over two centuries. Philip Rush, a local donor, funded the RNLI campaign for the trainee police officers.
