Isle of Man on alert as heavy rain threatens widespread flooding

The Isle of Man braces for heavy rain, with the Ronaldsway Met Office issuing a yellow weather warning from 6pm on Wednesday, November 12, to 6am on Thursday, November 13. Residents are urged to take precautions as the previous rain has led to localized flooding in several areas. The Met Office warns of potential surface water flooding, particularly in areas with poor drainage or saturated ground. Heavy rain is expected, with 10 to 20 millimetres predicted, and up to 30 millimetres possible in some areas. Motorists are reminded to take extra care on the roads. The Department of Infrastructure (DoI) had staff on standby overnight to address any worsening conditions. There is also a small risk of localized river flooding. Residents are advised to check drains and gullies near their homes, avoid unnecessary travel during heavy rain, and report significant flooding issues to authorities. This warning follows another yellow alert for rain on Tuesday, November 11, and covers all parts of the island. The Isle of Man is prepared to handle the expected heavy rain, with relevant authorities ready to respond to any flooding issues that may arise.
