Isle of Man braces for Storm Bram with red weather alert in force

A red weather alert for coastal overtopping has been issued for the Isle of Man as Storm Bram approaches. The warning takes effect at 1pm, with an amber alert for storm-force winds reaching gusts of up to 75mph. Authorities have already begun closing roads and suspending services as a precautionary measure.

Two roads—West Baldwin Road in Braddan and Garey Road in Lezayre—have already been shut due to the storm’s early impact. Further closures will follow at 1pm, including Shore Road in Rushen, The Promenade in Castletown, King Edward Road in Douglas, and The Promenade in Laxey. These coastal routes are expected to remain closed until at least 4pm, though delays may occur if clean-up work takes longer.

The red alert and road closures aim to minimise risks during Storm Bram’s peak. With winds reaching 75mph, disruption is likely across the island. Authorities will reassess conditions later today to determine if any restrictions need extending.
